Colonel James FitzGibbon was a hero of the War of 1812 (he's the guy Laura Secord ran to warn) and also led the government troops against William Lyon Mackenzie's rebel force on Yonge Street. He felt he was never properly rewarded for his deeds and eventually left Toronto, dying at Windsor Castle in England. You can read more about Colonel James FitzGibbon here.
