Crane Title

Ned "Cannonball" Crane was Toronto's first big baseball star, leading the Toronto Baseball Club to the pennant of the International League in 1887 — our city's very first baseball championship. Soon after that, he began to fall apart, spending his final days as a broke, unemployed, depressed, alcholic. He eventually committed suicide by drinking a bottle of chloral at a seedy hotel in Rochester. You can learn more about his tragic tale on the Toronto Dream Project blog here.
