Sir John A. Macdonald was the first Prime Minster of Canada. He's famous for bringing English- and French-speaking Canadians together in Confederation, as well as for his alcoholism and for building the railroad across Canada. But many Canadians also remember him for his destructive policies on matters concerning the First Nations and Métis — including his decision to allow the hanging of Métis leader Louis Riel.
