William Hincks was chosen as the first head of the Nautral History Department at the University of Toronto despite the fact that he didn't believe in Darwin's theory of evolution. In fact, he was chosen over T.H. Huxley, who would become one of the most famous scienists in the world thanks to his support for Darwin.
